Ask Dr. Renee: Update on Omron’s Going For Zero Campaign

Well it has been a few weeks since I started using my Omron EVOLV to monitor my blood pressure. Have you been Going for Zero™? I recently saw #GoingForZero on Dr. Oz show!! His whole audience went home with Omron Evolv blood pressure cuffs!!! In case you missed my first post about exactly what the Going for Zero campaign is you can see it here.
Taking my blood pressure regularly is a challenge to remember. I will admit that but I know that I need to take it the same time same arm each time for accuracy. I am very conscious of what I am putting in my mouth to make certain my blood pressure does not get in the Hypertension Stage 1 range. Here are some things I do to keep by blood pressure in the normal range:
- I use NO SALT
- I try to drink a gallon of water a day
- I flavor my food with different seasonings so I don’t need salt
- I read the nutrition labels to make certain the sodium is not too high in any packaged foods I eat
- I try to eat Whole Foods and not packaged foods
My friends at the American Heart Association have named April Move More Month so hopefully you have done that as well. I try to make sure that I get in at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise a day. Many of you know my favorite exercise to get in daily is a walking. I have made walking fun by competing in Fitbit challenges. I am a very competitive person so I don’t like to lose. I will walk extra steps and take stairs to get ahead of the competition.
Has anyone noticed anything surprising about their blood pressure? What did you notice? How did you change it?
