stopbladderleaks, Bladder, Why do I have accidents, Why Do I leak, Poise, Pantyliners, ask dr. renee   Attention Ladies of ALL AGES!!! Do you Leak? Many women have accidents, did you know that? Some ladies lose urine when they laugh, cough, sneeze or even during exercise. Let’s look at the definitions of what we are talking about: Urinary incontinence is the unintentional loss of urine. Stress incontinence happens when physical movement or activity — such as coughing, sneezing, running or heavy lifting — puts pressure (stress) on your bladder. Stress incontinence is not related to psychological stress. Stress incontinence differs from urge incontinence, which is the unintentional loss of urine caused by the bladder muscle contracting, usually associated with a sense of urgency. Stress incontinence is much more common in women than men. As I am sure you can understand many women experience this but do not discuss it because of feeling ashamed. This is more common than not. It was thought to be a part of growing older but many women that give birth experience it as well as girls in their 20s who have not had children but notice this problem while performing certain exercises.

If you have stress incontinence, you may experience leaks when you:

  • Cough
  • Sneeze
  • Laugh
  • Stand up
  • Get out of a car
  • Lift something heavy
  • Exercise
  • Have sex

You may not experience leakage every time you do one of these things, but any  activity that applies pressure to your bladder can make you more vulnerable to unintentional urine loss, particularly when your bladder is full.

Besides childbirth here are some other causes that may increase stress incontinence:

  • Illnesses that cause chronic coughing or sneezing
  • Obesity
  • Smoking, which can cause frequent coughing
  • Excess consumption of caffeine or alcohol
  • High-impact activities over many years
  • Hormonal deficiency

There are several products on the market but I recently tried, Finess, one of the newest products for stress incontinence on the market. This product enticed me because it was non-invasive. It also was not like pantyliners which to me remind me of a diaper. According to, Finess does what no pad can ever do – keep urine in your bladder. Developed by specialists in Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and extensively tested in women with SUI, Finess actually blocks leaks before they happen.

I loved this product and would highly recommend it. It was small and discrete I did not recall having it in place but it definitely did its job. If you would like to learn more about this product please visit
