Movie Review #FindingDory
Today I finally saw #FindingDory!!! I was a huge fan of “Finding Nemo” and when I heard rumors swirl that Dory was going to get a sequel I got very excited. Dory was an important character in “Finding Nemo” she helped Marlon (Nemo’s dad) find him. As soon as Dory came on the screen you knew there was something special about her. Dory has short term memory loss, she can’t remember anything you say to her minutes later. When I saw this movie that part really gave me a chuckle.
Thirteen years later when the movie started out with her parents teaching a young Dory how to tell people about her problem it brought tears to my eyes. First because I know people with memory loss and it is a very frustrating thing to deal with, second because I can remember my mom explaining to me my asthma and how to explain to people that I can not eat certain foods because they will kill me or I can not come to your house because you have a cat or a dog and the dander will cause me to have trouble breathing. After I got past that part I realized the underlying theme of the movie, “just keep swimming”. I believe just keep swimming means to keep going no matter what, don’t give up, don’t give in just keep swimming. The last few years of my life have been unchartered territory for me and there are many days when I want to give up but 3 years ago I heard “Not Making Sense, Making Faith” by Donald Lawrence for the first time and it CHANGED my life!! That song is my anthem for my life. I know that it doesn’t make sense to most people on the outside looking in but I am making faith. Well I will add just keep swimming to my life’s mantra because I am going to just keep swimming. My mom and I were recently talking about my sister-friend’s (Valeisha Butterfield-Jones guest of my show) husband Dahntay Jones he is on the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA basketball team and he is another person that is a true testament to just keep swimming he has had quite a career in the NBA on different teams and he has never given up. Now he is in the NBA Finals and had an amazing Game 6, Good Morning America tweeted about his performance and ESPN had him on their homepage as well. My mom said he knew he had a talent and he kept going and playing no matter what league or team he gives it his all. No matter what you are going through in life please “just keep swimming”. My friend Diann Valentine said to me when she was on my show, “All you can do is all you can do and once you’ve done all you can do then all you can do is wait on GOD.” Thank you Dory for reminding me to just keep swimming.
